September 19, 1998 in Portland, Oregon—This was my first meeting with my friend Jenny in a couple of years, and she had just gotten married. Can you get more happiness in a photograph? I think not. In fact, I don't think I recall ever seeing Jenny happier.
Jenny and I met at UP and spent a large portion of our sophomore year hanging out while we commisserated about just how lousy a thing love could be. (We both just been through the break-up thing with our significant others.) Through the college experience we did the Honors Program thing, the London Program thing, and the yearbook thing together. Our contact has been a little intermittent since then, but as this photo attests, good friends are friends for life. (It's barely out of frame, but I'm actually holding her hand to keep her from pulling my tie around over my head to form a hangman's noose. Ah, just kidding.)
