								DEMO: Who We Are [4:41 / 4.4 MB MP3]
Just a slight mistake of opening my heart
The space you needed to judge all my faults
I closed the gap you found,
										You, you played your part
Perhaps we are who we are
I tried to summon the courage more than once
Resolved to talk with you without interference
Conversation, explanation, could they lead us past
That awkward stage where we behave like indifferent strangers
I live in a world of regret
Things left undone, things I'd like to forget
Topping the list is talking with you
To see if we could somehow improve
Who we have been and who we are
Let me try to explain this pounding of my heart
Maybe you feel the same way
Or don't know where to start
But only when people are on the same line
										Or in the same space
										Can they be combined
The trouble with meand I don't know why
Is that I see all the faults
								Will you see me
										Not for who I am
										Or who I have been

But for who I can be?
And I'll see you not for who you are
Or who you have been
										But as you are...
										In my dreams
For I live in a world of regret
Things left undone, things I'd like to forget
Topping the list is talking with you
To see if we could somehow improve
Who we can be and who we are

								NOTES
Who We Are is a song of longing, regret, and forgiveness. I wrote it about those relationships I have which aren't what I want them to be. It's about feeling misjudged, turning away from others, trying to reconnect, acknowledging my own failures, and, ultimately, hoping for and seeking a different future based on the belief that it's possible for people see the best in one another.
