Begin Again [3:15 / 3 MB MP3]
Let us begin again
And try to understand
In the end, my friend
Love is like a song
We create, we hold...
And give away
Love is like a song
I sing for you
That I've sung
All along
NOTES
Begin Again was written around a guitar riff on a Blues Telecaster. What can I say? I find neat guitar riffs compelling. (Note that it sounds even better if you have a sub-woofer.) I'm also a fan of the guitar solo, and I think the percussion compliments things pretty well. (Since I'm not a drummer, that usually means there isn't a lot of percussion.) I like the piano bits, too. The flute and the Juno are just holding chords (D-F-G-B flat), so not a lot to say there. I wish I could say I was a fan of the vocals, but I don't have the tools I need (yet) in order to get those where I want them. The vocals are double-tracked and I've got a heavily tweaked eVerb plug-in going on one of them.
I won't delve into the production other than to say that I know it's not terrific and that I consider this more of an educational endeavor than anything else. Trust me, I'm working on it.
I wrote the lyrics quickly, and they provide a glimpse of the thoughts and emotions bouncing around in my head nowadays. If you think this song was written for you, you're probably right.
