July 13, 2000, Strasbourg, France—The poor French drunkard seen here waving to the troops was really in a world of his own. (For starters, he smelled like a distillery.)
At this Bastille Day-inspired military review in the city square, he repeatedly yelled out military commands like "at ease!" and "attention!" to the much-annoyed troops. Nonetheless, some audience members found his behavior hysterically funny, probably because despite the inherent self-importance exhibited by the soldiers in a troop review, the French military hasn't had anything to feel self-important about since the time of Napoleon.
